Kindness

What do you think of when you hear the word kindness??? Do you think about your parents helping you out with the kids or when one of your friends helped you through a bad breakup? What about when you see a homeless man or when you see a woman with a horde of loud annoying children? Those are some of the best examples of how we can show kindness to others.

I know what some of you are thinking… The dirty homeless guy should get a job and not mooch off of others. The woman should control her children or learn about birth control. I became very ill and I am now completely disabled. If it weren’t for my family I would have been homeless or worse dead. I bet you’re wondering what that has to do with the price of milk in China.

My hardships taught me about the power of kindness. My first horrifying experience was in a grocery store trying to reach for some cereal. I have developed tremors and an older lady made fun of me. I wouldn’t go out in public for a very log time after that. It would have been much easier for her to have helped me reach the box and it would have lifted my spirits and kept me from being a recluse for over a year. Instead she decided to be cynical and hateful to someone who was unknown to her.

Maybe just give the homeless man a smile or a cup of coffee, better yet if its cold bring him a blanket or even just a pillow. Sometimes just a kind word or a prayer on his behalf would be the best medicine for him. And the woman with the kids… why not try talking to the kids? smiling at them or laughing with them so their poor mom has a break. A kind word and a prayer word work for her as well.

I’m not ignorant, I completely understand some people choose to be alcoholics and drug addicts and you may think they don’t deserve kindness, but every soul deserves quietude and it is our job to help each other reach it. Besides do you believe you would be punished by trying to do good or that he/she would be punished for being deceitful? Showing love and kindness to others is the best way to actually show God’s love to the world. Its is the one-act we can commit to actually change our world and make it a better place to live.

Just think on it…

Lovingly,

Jen
